Yoga has been around for more than one thousand years, but it has become popular only relatively recently. The advantage of this type of training over others is the ease of preparation. To begin the practice, put on comfortable clothes and take a mat!
What is yoga?
Its main goal is to improve the physical, mental and spiritual state. And to bring them in harmony. Practice is built on this principle: without knowing how to control his body, a person cannot control his emotions and his life. Long-term exercises lead the practitioner to inner silence and peace.
Where and when did yoga appear?
The first concepts about it were formed in India more than 5,000 years ago. Archaeologists have made conclusions about this, finding statues depicting men and women in certain asanas during excavations. However, the first written confirmation of the development of yoga dates back to later times. About 2000 years ago, the Indian philosopher Patanjali made a written meeting of the principles of the teaching – Sutras. According to historians, until that time, yogic knowledge was passed down from generation to generation in oral form. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are now the basic text of the Indian school of yoga, and the philosopher himself is called its founder.
How to start the practice?
It is not recommended to learn yoga on your own when you are just a beginner. You should get an experienced guru. When performing asanas, a non-trained person cannot always correctly line up a pose, which ultimately does not lead to the desired effect. Learning later is harder than practicing right from the start. The coach at the group lesson in each asana notes the key points that should be paid attention to when beginning. The couch can also pronounce the main mistakes that beginners make.
How many asanas do in one lesson?
A full yoga class can include several blocks:
- joint-tendon gymnastics;
- hatha yoga – performing asanas;
- pranayama – breathing exercises;
- meditation, relaxation.
The optimal practice duration is 1-1.5 hours. For hatha yoga should take a minimum of 30-40 minutes. Practice shows that for 1 lesson at least 7 asanas should be performed.
But it is important to remember: if there is haste, pain or suffering during the occupation – this is not yoga. Therefore, in practice, it is necessary to focus not on the number of asanas, but on their proper construction and their own sensations. Even one consciously worked asana is considered yoga, whereas 10 exercises performed in a hurry are not at all.
How many times a week do yoga?
In order to see a specific result from classes, you should study at the initial stage at least once a week. After 6-8 weeks of regular practice, you can increase the number of workouts up to 2 times a week. The second lesson can already be held independently at home. In the future, optimally engage in three times a week. Many yogis practice daily.
How to choose a good yoga mat?
In choosing a rug, follow this rule: determine the appropriate price range for you, and within its limits select a more expensive product. You should not aim at the most expensive floor mats – at the initial stage, limit yourself to the average price. With experience will come the realization of what characteristics you will want to improve. In addition to the price, you need to pay attention to the length and thickness of the product. Beginners are recommended to take mats not thinner than 5 mm – softness will make asanas more comfortable. Choose the length according to your height. There are products with a length of 170 cm and less, which is not suitable for most people, so be sure to consider this parameter.
What is useful for yoga figure?
Regular classes will teach to own your own body, to develop all muscle groups, to increase sensitivity. Yoga helps to gradually lose weight and gain a fit. However, this result will not be fast.
Also, breathing practices and hatha yoga help get rid of stagnation in the body, normalize blood circulation. It returns the skin a healthy color and freshness.
